arcanist
Arcanists are wizards who seek to master magic through practice and experience, not mere theory. Rather than dissecting the mysteries of a single school, they refine their casting through repetition, experimentation, and sheer determination. This pragmatic approach expands both their repertoire and their capacity to cast, pushing the limits of what most wizards can achieve.
A wizard who calls themselves an Arcanist relies on fortitude and adaptability to overcome the shortcomings of even their most basic spells. Where specialists rely on finesse and formula, Arcanists prevail through endurance and breadth, outmaneuvering their foes with an overwhelming arsenal of spells rather than intricate spellcraft.
Focus School
Your specialized study yields deep insight into one school of magic, but blinds you to its counterpoint.
Choose one Focus School of magic. Spells from your Focus School cost half the normal time and gold to scribe into your Spellbook. Spells from your Opposition School (see the table below) cost twice the usual time and gold.
| Focus School | Opposite School |
|---|---|
| Abjuration | Evocation |
| Conjuration | Necromancy |
| Divination | Enchantment |

Expanded Repetoir
Your wide-ranging studies allow you to record and master a greater variety of spells than most wizards.
Each time you gain a level in this class, you can add one additional Arcane spell of your choice to your Spellbook, this spell must be of (one of) your focus school, and must be of a level for which you have wizard spell slots, and it counts as a wizard spell for you.
Keen Casting
Your spellcasting precision borders on the extraordinary, allowing you to slip past the defenses of your foes, this grants you the following benefits:
- Focussed Accuracy. When you make a spell attack roll using a spell that is of your Focus School, a result of 19 or 20 on the d20 counts as a critical hit.
- Untrained Difficulty. When you make a spell attack roll using a spell that is of your opposite school, a result of 1 or 2 on the d20 counts as a critical miss.
Arcane Reserves
Years of disciplined practice have expanded your well of basic spellcasting power. Granting you one additional wizard spell slot of 1st-level.
At higher levels, you gain additional wizard spell slots, a 2nd level spell slot at 12th level, a 3rd level spell slot at 14th level, a 4th level spell slot at 16th level, and finally a 5th level spell slot at 18th level.
All of these spell slots are Wizard Spell Slots, and are recovered when you recover your regular wizard spell slots.
Expanded Scholarship
Your mastery broadens into new horizons of magic, your understanding deep enough to span multiple schools of thought.
Choose a second Focus School of magic. It cannot be your first school's Opposition School, and it cannot share an opposition conflict with your existing choice.
